Airing during the network’s regular Lear Sunday block, the 90-minute special includes a guest appearance by the legendary Sammy Davis Jr. It also showcases a selection of holiday episodes that offer a glimpse into his remarkable career as a sitcom creator.

The 200th Episode Celebration of All in the Family will air tonight on MeTV. It starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by five holiday episodes from All in The Family, Good Times, and Sanford and Son.

Norman Lear died at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday at age 101. He revolutionized television in the ’70s and early ’80s, introducing topical subjects blended with sitcom humor, breaking away from more sanitized family images.

As a producer, he revolutionized sitcoms, creating iconic shows that redefined television. With groundbreaking series like All in the Family, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, and The Jeffersons, Lear proved the viability and immense popularity of socially-realistic sitcoms. In 1984, Norman Lear was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame for his remarkable contributions.

Lear never retired and was recently involved in a revival of the classic sitcom One Day at a Time for Netflix. He was actively working on multiple TV projects, one of which was a revival of the beloved series Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, until his passing.

Sony acquired Lear’s TV library from Embassy Communications in 1985. Since then, they have remade “One Day at a Time” for Netflix/Pop and have been working on other projects. Lear’s overall deal with Sony continues, with multiple upcoming projects bearing his name.
